Fishing:
This
area is one of the best locations in northern California for
salmon and steelhead fishing. Steelhead range in size from 3 to 8
pounds and fish up to 15 pounds are landed each year. The Klamath
River is famous for a fall run of "halfpounders" (fish up to 3 lbs),
providing plenty of action on light tackle. Trout fishing is
excellent in the crystal clear creek tributaries and nearby high
mountain lakes.
Rafting and Kayaking: Guided float trips in rafts, oar boards and
kayaks are available on the
Class III rated Klamath River. One, two and three day trips
provide a unique camping experience. This is one of the finest
northern California rivers for viewing wildlife. Bring your kayak
and explore the creeks and rivers at a leisurely pace.Information on
river conditions, maps and brochures are available at the Happy Camp
Ranger District office or call (530) 493-2243.
Hiking and Camping: There is camping under tall trees next to
crystal clear waterways, in both primitive and full service
campgrounds, which include recreational buildings, laundries and other
amenities.

Hunting: We have some of the finest hunting in the area for
blacktail deer and black bear. Bird hunting includes dove, quail,
wild turkey and pigeon.
Boating: Jet and drift boat excursions are available for a unique
and rewarding fishing or whitewater experience or to just explore the
area from the river.
Recreational Gold Mining: Happy Camp's rich gold
deposits were
discovered by the old-timers. Lots of gold still exists.
Instruction in gold panning, dredging and other recreational gold
mining activities are available.
Wilderness Horse Packing: See our beautiful wilderness areas from
horseback. Experienced guides will show you the splendor and
excitement of the great outdoor adventure.
Bicycling: Travel the famous Wild and Scenic Klamath River
Highway. Our area is covered by a maze of mountain roads ideal
for mountain biking. Stop in at the Happy Camp Ranger Station for
a brochure outlining cycling routes in the scenic Siskiyou Mountains.
Rock hounding: The area is
known geologically for its deposits of
jade with gold inclusion and rhodonite.
